Writing & Compiling
-
Ghostwriting & Collaborative Writing
Need a professional writer to help share your story with the world? Our team members have ghostwritten for bestselling authors, finished final chapters for almost-completed works, written companion pieces to accompany an author’s main book, and added thought-provoking discussion questions. -
Cover Copy
A catchy title or book cover may have gotten the reader to pick the book up, but a precise and alluring cover copy is what will bring someone to the cash register. No one knows the book’s topic better than the author, but sometimes an outside professional is needed to help explain why the reader needs THIS book right now. -
Indexing
For some books, a thorough and quality index is needed to make a text more accessible for the reader. A good index gathers together all the substantive terms and subjects found in the book, sorts them alphabetically, provides cross-references to and from related terms, and includes page numbers or other specific page locators to the text.
Editing
-
Developmental Editing
Developmental editing shapes the content of a work, suggests options for restructuring material in the most appealing way, highlights sections where either more or less documentation is needed, and looks for other macro-level edits that would improve the manuscript. -
Substantive Editing
Substantive editing deals with the organization and presentation of existing content. It involves rewriting to improve style or to eliminate ambiguity, reorganizing or tightening disorganized or loosely written sections, and other remedial activities. -
Line Editing
Line editing works line-by-line through a book, ensuring that each sentence is as effective as it can be. A line editor is attentive to the writer’s individual style and approaches the manuscript as a careful reader. They look closely at how a writer’s word choice and syntax contributes to the tone or emotion of a piece of writing. A line editor is also concerned with the overall pacing and logical flow of a piece. -
Copy Editing
Copy editing involves polishing up a mostly well-written manuscript in order to clear up any final ambiguities while retaining the author’s voice and meaning. While giving a thorough read-through, the copy editor also looks to identify and correct grammar, spelling, wordiness, clunky transitions, problematic or misused words, and uneven flow. -
Proofreading
Proofreading is the last line of defense against any previously missed spelling, punctuation, or grammar mistakes. While reading the text carefully, the proofreader scrutinizes all of its components to find errors and mark them for correction. The proofreader will also make mention of any bigger-level concerns that may have been missed during a previous edit.
Design
-
Interior Page Design
Before printing, every manuscript requires a quality interior design of its pages, complete with tables and illustrations, chapter title pages, specialized fonts, running heads, subheads, and anything else necessary for the final version of the book. -
Exterior Cover Design
A book’s cover is the first impression made on the potential reader. Whether the book requires an eye-popping 4-color design or a more subtle and professional look to match the book’s intended feel, the design of the front cover, back cover, and interior flaps should be a top priority of any book.
Marketing
-
Marketing Packaging Services
When the book is designed and printed, it’s time to get the word out! A marketing content packet includes items such as: a book summary, discussion questions, snippets and excerpts to be used in promotional pieces, a YouVersion reading plan, blog posts, and more. -
Social Media Marketing
Using platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X (formerly known as Twitter), a consistent and focused social media campaign is almost required nowadays if any author wants to get the word out about his or her book, even those published through a mainstream publisher. A Social Media Marketing professional can unload that burden from the author and promote the exciting new book through all the appropriate channels.
